Everything you need to know about starting your therapeutic journey with Young & Rooted Therapy.
What happens in a first session?
Our first session is about getting to know each other. I'll ask about what's bringing you to therapy, your history, and what you're hoping will be different. You're welcome to ask me anything too. By the end, we'll have a sense of whether this feels like the right fit and what our work together might look like.
Do you accept insurance?
I am currently in-network with Blue Shield of CA, Carelon, Cigna, and Aetna. You can view more details on the
Insurances page.
How do I check if I have out-of-network coverage?
If your plan isn't listed on the Insurances page, you may still have out-of-network benefits. A superbill is available on request for clients who need documentation to submit for reimbursement.
Do you offer Christian or faith-based counseling?
Yes, for clients who want it. I integrate evidence-based approaches like CBT and DBT with faith-informed reflection when that's meaningful to you, whether that means weaving in scripture, prayer, or values-based conversation. It's never assumed or required. We'll follow your lead on how much faith is or isn't part of our work.
Do you specialize in postpartum or perinatal mental health?
I'm currently working toward my Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C) through Postpartum Support International, and I care deeply about supporting mothers through the postpartum season. I'm not yet certified, and if your needs require a fully certified perinatal specialist, I'm happy to help you find the right referral.
Do you offer online therapy in California?
Yes — all sessions are offered via telehealth to California residents.
I'm not sure I need therapy, and this will be my first time. How do I know if it's right for me?
You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many clients start simply because they want more support, clarity, or a space to be heard — reach out and we can talk through whether it feels like a good fit.
How often will I need to come to therapy?
This depends on your needs and goals; many clients find weekly sessions most supportive, especially early on.
How long will I be in therapy?
There's no fixed timeline — some clients come for a few months to work through something specific, others stay longer for ongoing support. We'll check in regularly on what's working for you.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. What you share in session is protected by confidentiality laws, with a few legal exceptions I'll walk you through in our first session, such as risk of harm to yourself or others, or abuse of a child, elder, or dependent adult.
What if we're not the right fit?
That's completely okay, and it happens. If I don't think I'm the right therapist for what you need, I'll do my best to point you toward someone who is.
Is this a crisis service?
No. If you're in crisis or experiencing a mental health emergency, please call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), or go to your nearest emergency room.
How do I pay?
Payment is collected securely by credit or debit card via Stripe. HSA/FSA cards are accepted where issued as a standard Visa or Mastercard.
